In a bid to ease commuting challenges faced by Rawalpindi’s residents, the city is gearing up to launch its electric bus service next year. Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service initiative aims to alleviate transportation issues by establishing six routes, including a significant connection from Taxila, Wah Cantt, IJ Principal Road to Octori 26, and another linking Daultala with Rawalpindi. Additionally, maintenance work on the Metrobus tracks is scheduled from June to December this year.
During a recent press conference, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan unveiled these plans. He emphasized his frequent visits to Rawalpindi under Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz Sharif’s directive to tackle transportation and traffic management challenges effectively.
Consultations with members of national and provincial assemblies are already underway, with local MNAs and MPAs actively participating in route reviews. Minister Khan highlighted the neglect of Metrobus infrastructure maintenance by the previous government over the past eight to nine years, leading to the necessity of repair work starting in June and anticipated to conclude by December.
This initiative not only promises improved transportation services but also underscores a commitment to sustainable and modernized urban mobility solutions in Rawalpindi.
