Paul Gascoigne has thrown his weight behind Jurgen Klopp to become the next England manager, despite the former Liverpool boss’ insistence he will take a year-long sabbatical.
England are yet to fill the vacant head coach position after Gareth Southgate left following their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
Lee Carsley will take charge of the upcoming Nations League matches on an interim basis, but there has not been any final decision on a permanent replacement.
A host of names have been linked with the vacant post such as Graham Potter, Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola.
Gascoigne has dropped Klopp’s name into the list of possible replacements the FA should consider.
“Sky Sports saying you’re going to be the manager of Liverpool, he did amazing there.”
Gascoigne’s comments come just a few weeks after Lineker suggested the FA would jump at the chance to bring in Klopp.
“I’ve always thought it should be an English manager if possible but if you said to me Jurgen Klopp would do it or Pep Guardiola would do it, which I suspect they wouldn’t, then that’s a little bit different,” Lineker said.

However, the Liverpool boss has ruled out taking on the permanent England job as he remains committed to taking a year out of working in football.
“I have nothing to say about that,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter who calls: In my resignation statement, I said that I wouldn’t coach any country or club for a year.

“Some people must have missed that part.
“The very next day, someone called, and I said, ‘Are you crazy? I just explained that yesterday’.”
He added: “There are a lot of managers here and the situation where the phone doesn’t stop ringing and you can go anywhere is a fortune that few have.
“However, the timing couldn’t be worse to contact me.”
