Kieran Trippier has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.

The Newcastle star made 54 caps for England over his career and was a crucial part of the squad that reached the Euro 2024 final over the summer.

Having made his debut for the Three Lions in 2017 under Gareth Southgate, Trippier went on to become a mainstay under the former England boss.

He performed a number of duties from right-back to left-back and his versatility was one of the top reasons he earned Southgate’s trust.

But with Lee Carsley now in interim charge, Trippier believes now is the right time to draw a line in the sand over his international future.

“I never thought as a young lad from Bury that I would play for my country let alone achieve 54 caps,” Trippier posted on social media.

“It’s been one of the biggest honours of my life to represent my country at four major tournaments.

“I want to say a big thank you to Gareth and all the staff that have worked with the England squad for the trust they have placed in me throughout the years.”
