3 Pakistani Pilgrims Dead on Route to Arbaeen

A tragic bus accident in southern Iran has claimed the lives of at least three Pakistani pilgrims and left 48 others injured, as reported by state media on Monday. The pilgrims were en route to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen commemoration, a significant event marking the 40th day of mourning for Imam Husain, the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The incident occurred late Sunday when the bus collided with a truck on the main road between Neyriz city in Fars province and Sirjan in Kerman province. Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, confirmed the fatalities and injuries but did not specify the total number of passengers on board. According to Colonel Abdol Hashem Dehghani, a Fars traffic police official, a “technical failure” in the bus’s brakes, coupled with the driver’s inability to control the vehicle, led to the devastating crash.

In a conflicting report, Iran’s Mehr News Urdu cited Neyriz Governor Yaqub Khosrawani, stating that four Pakistani pilgrims lost their lives, with 30 others sustaining injuries. This incident is the second fatal road accident involving Pakistani pilgrims within a week, following a crash in Yazd city that claimed 28 lives as they journeyed to Iraq for Arbaeen. The bodies of the deceased were repatriated to Pakistan via a special flight on Friday night.
